Prosafe Consultancy Company Ltd recently carried out occupational hygiene measurements at Kenrom Chemicals Uganda Limited to assess key workplace exposure factors and support a safer, healthier working environment.
The activity focused on noise, particulate matter, and lighting. These parameters are important indicators of workplace conditions and can directly affect employee health, comfort, productivity, and long-term well-being.
Purpose of the Assessment
The measurements provide clear, concise, and verifiable information on the production processes and general workplace environment. The findings help employers, employees, safety representatives, and regulatory authorities understand existing exposure levels and evaluate the effectiveness of controls already in place.
Regular hygiene monitoring is an important part of occupational health management. It helps identify risks early, guide corrective action, and confirm that protective measures continue to work effectively.
Parameters Measured
The assessment included targeted quantitative measurements of:
- Noise levels – to identify areas where workers may be at risk of hearing damage and determine whether hearing protection or engineering controls are needed.
- Particulate matter – to assess airborne dust and particle exposure, particularly in areas where chemical handling or production activities may generate airborne contaminants.
- Lighting levels – to confirm that work areas have adequate illumination for safe performance of tasks, reduced eye strain, and fewer operational errors.
Supporting a Healthier Workplace
The results of the exercise will support Kenrom Chemicals Uganda Limited in making informed decisions on exposure control, personal protective equipment, workplace layout, ventilation, maintenance, and employee health monitoring.
Prosafe Consultancy commends Kenrom Chemicals for taking a proactive approach to occupational hygiene. Regular measurement and review of workplace conditions help protect workers, improve compliance, and build a stronger culture of health and safety.
